Culture, People, and Recruiting

Here is the topic cluster on culture, people, and recruiting. These are the best posts I've written in this space:
  • It's about winning as a team: if that person doesn't buy into the team mentality, they are gone. No one is bigger than the collective team.
  • Why you need to get rid of facetime: productivity is just not measured by face time. Productivity is truly measured by delivering great results, ideally sooner than expected.
  • You know it when you see it: the "you know it when you see it" ability is very difficult to develop. More importantly, when recruiting you need to have it for every critical area of your company.
  • HR as competitive advantage: human resources is often looked at as a support function that is a "necessary evil" but it's a lot more interesting and useful to think of HR as a competitive advantage.
  • Culture and people: thus it's not the culture of a company that inspires people to "yearn for the vast and endless sea" - rather, people are the source of inspiration. That's a big difference.
  • On the fringes: there is a ton of incredible talent on the fringes - people without the traditional backgrounds. I see a lot of opportunity in rethinking recruiting.
  • Being the glue: if you can make the small personal sacrifices to truly be a team player, you'll sooner or later get recognized for it. And the rewards will be disproportionately larger than the initial investment of your small sacrifice.
